I'm gonna try with club. I am curious to know what the response from the athletes is going to be and considering that the club season is different from college, in the sense that it really isn't a season, but more of a preparatory period, I am not sure how exciting it will be. I haven't decided yet.

Then again, I really didn't plan on covering college and look what happened.

And yes I will be in Vancouver in August.

I have to agree with the eye strain comment. My job (such as it is) is to read x-rays from a computer monitor in a darkened room. In my occasional downtime, I read this blog. As it turns out, your orange-on-black color combination is very effective at leaving a negative on my retina, effectively doubling my downtime while I wait for the little blue lines to disappear. I congratulate you on writing content interesting enough to keep me reading despite the "negative."

Great stuff, Match. Your writing is easily my favorite stuff out there even when I disagree with you (which is most of the time :).

For next year's Junior players keep an eye on these two guys:
Zander Padget (Colorado)
Jacob Janin (Oregon?)

The class of '08 isn't quite as good as the class of '07 but these two guys already play on an elite club level.

Match, great, great first year for your blog. It has given me so much pleasure to read, and it's a great way to waste time at work.

Sorry to hear your foot's not healing fast, but just get better for the fall- we need you at sectionals/regionals... and as for grad school, it has huge peaks and valleys, but it usually works out in the end...

Greetings Match,

The ultimate coincidence just occurred. I was checking your blog for the 'promised' final discussion of the college season, and it appeared on screen at the exact same time my son called me (Palmer of Sunburn). He is visiting Chicago with Chris Shepard and a few other teammates, winding down from their great season and the college semester.

He told me of hanging with you Saturday evening in Boulder and had great things to say about you, and that you promised them a write-up. The write-up was very special, as was their season. Nice job.

My wife and I traveled to most of the tournaments to photograph and video (respectively) their games. In the three years we have known the team, it has been wonderful to learn they are such classy and talented men, people with whom I am glad that my son is associated. In San Diego they stayed at my sister's house and in Vegas they stayed at my brother's house; my family enjoyed the team and were impressed by how nice and respectful they were. I am pleased you got to experience their team spirit. Some of them were actually crying when they came off the field after the comeback win over Dartmouth.

The Callahan: It makes sense to me that Kershner won - he exemplifies the spirit of the game as well as the definition of a MVP. Palmer said that he learned so much from Loppi the past two years that it really brought him and the team up to the championship level, although not quite to the FL and WI level, likely due to team depth. We have photos and videos of Loppi's big catches in Vegas, from different angles that those available on the web. The catches are spectacular from any angle!

The core seniors on Sunburn will continue in the club season playing on the Barrio mixed team. They made it to nationals last year and should do well again.
